ALMEDIATM the leaders in Jaw Crushers Technology are proud to introduce the Vertical Shaft Impactors.

It is a next generation tertiary machine designed & manufactured with quality workmanship. Hence a robust & tertiary machine for concrete aggregates, sand manufacturing, asphalt mixing & materials for road base.

ALMEDIATM VSI - How it works

It works on the principle of centrifugal force. Material to be crushed is fed into center of the rotor, through a vertical tube. The Rotor rotates at high speed of 50-60 m/sec. Due to centrifugal forced the feed material starts attaining speed & gets distributed over the distribution rock box. As the material reaches the rotor vanes, towards the periphery, attains the same speed as the speed of rotor's periphery. At the instant of leaving the rotor, material attains a velocity which is the resultant of peripheral Velocity & radial velocity due to centrifugal force. The direction of resultant velocity is almost 45 degree centigrade to radial direction.

The high velocity feed particles attain tremendous kinetic energy, so after impact against the breaking surface, stresses are developed within the particles & they disintegrate into number of pieces.

ALMEDIATM manufacture both types of VSI :

  • ROCK - ON - ROCK
  • ROCK - ON - STEEL

ROCK - ON - ROCK TYPE : Rotor is designed in such a manner that stone layer gets formed on the vane & breaking surface is also formed by material built up. This reduces wear & tear of both, vanes & breaker walls. The advantage of this type of VSI is that, spare consumption is reduced but the cushioned surfaces reduce considerably the amount of crushing.

ROCK - ON - STEEL TYPE : In the type material to be crushed glides on the steel vanes & after getting released from the rotor, strikes on steel surfaces. Although the wear & tear of vane surfaces & breaker surfaces is high, we can use bigger feed - size (upto 100mm) & the reduction ratio is also high.

Vertical Shaft Impactor FAQ:

1. What is a Vertical Shaft Impactor (VSI)?

Ans: A VSI is a type of crusher used for crushing aggregate materials into smaller, more uniform particles. It operates on the principle of high-speed impact to break down materials.

2. How does a VSI work?

Ans: A VSI has a vertical shaft with a rotor that spins rapidly. Material is fed into the center of the rotor and is accelerated outward against stationary anvils within the crushing chamber. This high-speed impact crushes the material into smaller pieces.

3. What types of materials can be crushed by a VSI?

Ans: VSI crushers are suitable for crushing various materials including hard rocks, minerals, ores, and aggregates such as gravel and sand.

4. What are the advantages of using a Vertical Shaft Impactors?

Ans: VSI crushers offer several advantages including high crushing efficiency, uniform particle size distribution, adjustable settings for desired product size and shape, and the ability to produce cubical-shaped particles, which is desirable for many applications.

5. What are the main applications of VSI crushers?

Ans: VSI crushers are commonly used in the production of high-quality aggregate materials such as sand and gravel, as well as in the mining industry for the production of crushed stone and minerals. They are also used in recycling applications for processing construction and demolition waste.

6. How do you maintain a VSI crusher?

Ans: Maintenance of a VSI crusher typically involves regular inspection of wear parts such as the rotor, anvils, and liners, and replacing them when necessary. Proper lubrication of bearings and routine checks of the drive system are also important for ensuring smooth operation.

7. Can a Vertical Shaft Impactors be used for shaping particles?

Ans: Yes, VSI crushers are often used for shaping particles to produce cubical-shaped aggregates, which are desirable for applications such as concrete production and asphalt mixing.

8. What factors should be considered when selecting a VSI crusher?

Ans: Factors to consider include the type of material to be crushed, required production capacity, desired product size and shape, power consumption, maintenance requirements, and budget constraints.

9. Are VSI crushers environmentally friendly?

Ans: VSI crushers can be considered environmentally friendly compared to some other crushing methods, especially when used for producing manufactured sand from quarried rock. They typically produce less noise and dust and consume less energy per ton of material crushed.

10. Can a Vertical Shaft Impactors be used in conjunction with other crushing equipment?

Ans: Yes, VSI crushers can be used in conjunction with other crushing and screening equipment such as jaw crushers, cone crushers, and screening plants to achieve specific production goals and desired product specifications.
